VisitBrighton Convention Bureau’s romantic proposal

VisitBrighton’s fam itinerary turned out to have an unexpected romantic element for one buyer’s partner when she found herself on the receiving end of a marriage proposal during the trip (28-30 November 2014). Conference buyer Kim Matthews, from Trauma Care, proposed to long term partner Yvonne Leach at the Thistle Brighton after a drinks and buffet reception at the city’s iconic Royal Pavilion.

The couple were among a group of conference buyers invited by the Bureau to explore the city’s offer for conference delegates.  As well as a tour of the former Royal Palace, the two day itinerary included complimentary accommodation at the Thistle Brighton, lunch at one of Brighton’s premier seafood restaurants Fishy Fishy, and guided tours of some of the city’s main conference venues including the Hilton Metropole, Grand hotel and 5,000 capacity Brighton Centre.  On Saturday night, evening entertainment was provided at the Brighton Centre where Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding was performing as part of his latest UK tour.

Kim said: “I think everyone knows what an inspiring city Brighton is so it just felt like a fitting place to make my grand gesture.  Yvonne and I have been together for 9 years and I had planned to propose to her on her birthday but when we got the fam invite everything fell into place. Our first time in the city turned out to be a truly memorable one, the place is every bit as special as its reputation and we’re looking forward to returning very soon.”
